Early-Mid Career Researcher
Interest Group

The PoCoG Early-Mid Career Researcher (EMCR) interest group aims to provide a dedicated network to promote interactions between EMCRs and senior researchers in psycho-oncology.

Our group enables members to be more actively involved in setting and implementing PoCoG’s research and organisational agenda and collaborative research activities.

The group will also help PoCoG develop resources to support EMCRs working in psycho-oncology.

We recognise that Early-Mid Career Researcher (EMCR) status can vary depending on career paths and opportunities. For research-specific activities, Early Career Researchers are generally considered to be within five years of PhD completion and Mid-Career Researchers are generally considered to be within 5-15 years post PhD (relative to opportunity).

PoCoG has a diverse membership, including many clinician researchers. Therefore, we take a flexible, self-identified approach to EMCR status to ensure inclusivity and relevance across different professional journeys.

Activities and resources include:

  • Opportunities and support to submit to Concept Development Workshops to encourage the development and implementation of new and innovative research studies in psycho-oncology

  • Access to webinars and online learning opportunities relevant to research development, skill building, and current trends in psycho-oncology

  • Opportunities for peer support and social gatherings to promote connection and collaboration amongst EMCRs

  • Updates on training, initiatives or awards relevant to EMCRs in psycho-oncology

The leaders of this group are Dr Emma Kemp, Dr Ashfaq Chauhan and Dr Helen Haydon.
