Scientific Advisory Committee

The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) is the engine room for PoCoG research and is responsible for determining our strategic direction and research priorities.

SAC activities include:

  • Setting PoCoG’s strategic direction and research priorities and ensuring they are in line with Cancer Australia principles and key performance indicators.

  • Reviewing and providing feedback on proposals for PoCoG involvement in research.

  • Taking part in the review of PoCoG studies to ensure scientific rigour and maintenance of research quality.

The SAC is multidisciplinary and includes members with diverse clinical and research experience. It includes:

  • The SAC Chair and Deputy SAC Chair

  • The PoCoG Chair and PoCoG Deputy Chair

  • One Community Advisory Group representative

  • One Special Advisor on First Nations Research

  • A maximum of 4 ordinary members

  • A maximum of 3 early career researchers

  • One lead from each Special Interest Group

  • President of the Australian Psycho-Oncology Society (OZPOS) or nominated representative

  • Chair of the Oncology Social Work Australia (OSWANZ) or nominated representative

In addition, the following advisory members are regularly co-opted into SAC activities:

  • Representative from the Cancer Quality of Life Expert Service Team (CQUEST)

  • Representative from the Cancer Research Economics Support Team (CREST)
