RESTORE
What is the study about?
Cancer-related fatigue is a common symptom experienced by people living with a brain tumour, affecting their quality of life.
RESTORE is an online intervention that has been shown to improve people’s ability to self-manage their cancer-related fatigue.
However, previous evaluations of RESTORE did not include any brain cancer survivors.
This study aimed to determine the suitability of RESTORE for people living with a brain tumour.
What did we do?
To pursue this aim, we conducted semi-structured interviews to explore aspects of the RESTORE intervention requiring modification to tailor its suitability for people living with brain cancer.
These interviews were conducted with health care professionals experienced in caring for people with a brain tumour; adults with brain tumours; and, caregivers of adults with brain tumours.
What did we find?
The results of these interviews indicated a brain tumour-specific version of RESTORE would be acceptable to address fatigue in this population. However, greater flexibility and tailoring of content is required. Thirty-two recommended modifications were derived from participant feedback to optimise RESTORE for this population.
What are our next steps?
We have submitted a publication (currently under review) describing the results of this qualitative work. We are currently adapting RESTORE based on the recommendations derived from this work and plan to evaluate this new brain tumour-specific version of RESTORE in a randomised controlled trial. We are aiming to begin trial recruitment in November 2024.
